Kick off the year with a digital back to school activity that helps you truly get to know your students while tapping into something they already love—selfies! Instead of basic icebreakers, students create personalized “Oh Snap” projects that combine images, reflection, and storytelling. ➡️ Oh Snap Digital Scrapbook Assignment: Students create a scrapbook-style slide featuring two memorable summer moments. They insert an image of each event and include written reflections explaining why those experiences were meaningful.

➡️ Oh Snap Phone Photos Digital Assignment: Students select three meaningful photos from their phones (or imagine three if they do not have access to a device) and insert them into the slide. For each image, they write a short explanation describing the memory behind it and why it matters to them. An alternative option is included for students without phones so everyone can fully participate in this get to know you activity.

➡️ Oh Snap Selfies Digital Assignment: Students insert their own “selfie” inside a phone template and write about who they are. Prompts guide them to describe their personality traits, hobbies, interests, strengths, goals, likes, and dislikes. The selfie format of this get to know you activity keeps students engaged while still getting them to produce meaningful writing.
