Character Analysis Assignment For Any Novel or Short Story - Dating Profile
Bring some fun into your middle & high school English classes with this character analysis assignment that can be used with any short story or novel. After students have read a fictional short story or novel, have them create an online dating profile for one of the characters! Students will have to show an understanding of the character's physical description, personality, relationship with others, and goals. They will also have to infer who the ideal partner would be for this character. This character analysis assignment encourages close reading, text-based evidence, and inference in a fun and creative way. This works great on Valentine's Day, but can be used at any time of the year!

➡️ Character Dating Profile Assignment Template: Students complete a structured, ready-to-use dating profile layout for their chosen character. Sections include the character’s name, physical description, personality traits, interests, goals, ambitions, “You should message me if…” prompts, and an ideal partner description. Each section requires students to move beyond surface-level details and analyze the character’s motivations, values, and relationships within the text.
