Valentine’s Day Mystery Activity – Who Kidnapped Cupid? ELA Skills Digital Game
Turn your classroom into a Valentine’s Day crime scene with this interactive ELA mystery that keeps students engaged while practicing essential language skills. In this digital Valentine’s Day activity, students become detectives racing against the clock to solve the mystery of Cupid’s disappearance in the town of Lovewell. Students will uncover hidden clues by completing spelling, grammar, punctuation, and figurative language challenges. As students eliminate suspects, locations, and methods, they piece together who kidnapped Cupid, where it happened, and how it was done—just in time to save Valentine’s Day.
This is a digital resource and students complete all the work on a device. This works well with distance learning, 1:1 classrooms, remote teaching, Google Classroom, or online education.
How Does the Valentine’s Mystery Digital Activity Work?:
- Students are introduced to a story-based mystery set on the eve of Valentine’s Day, when Cupid suddenly vanishes and panic spreads across Lovewell. They learn about a cast of suspects with clear motives, a set of possible locations, and several suspicious methods that could explain Cupid’s disappearance.
- Students will examine 10 clue cards and complete the digital activities that require students to apply ELA skills—such as correcting spelling and homophones, identifying figurative language, fixing punctuation, and analyzing capitalization—to reveal clues.
- These clues allow students to eliminate suspects, locations, or methods on the detective booklet slides. Once groups believe they have solved the case, they call out, “We solved the mystery!” and check their solution. The class can then review each clue together and reveal the final culprit using the answer slides.
