Inference Activity - Making Inferences on Social Media Reading Assignments is a creative activity designed to help your students improve their inferential thinking. Students will examine three social media profiles and use their reading skills to infer information about the person who owns the account. Each of the profiles includes posts, conversations, updates, and images that reveal information about the person's traits, interests, relationships, and more! Students will complete one of the three included assignments designed to help students infer meaning.

Prompting questions are provided to help guide students' inferences of the social media profiles. Students must infer information from the profiles based on their background knowledge and demonstrate what evidence led them to make that inference.

Included in the Social Media Inference Activities Resource:

➡️
3 Creative Social Media Profiles: These 3 unique social media profiles will engage even your most reluctant readers. Students will examine the profiles of three different people and read information, posts, conversations, updates, pictures, and much more. Students will attempt to infer information from the information presented about the person's traits, interests, relationships, and more! Have students choose a profile or have them analyze all three!

➡️
3 Social Media Inference Activity Assignment Options: After students have examined the profiles, they can choose between three different response assignments:

  1. Table Graphic Organizer: This option allows students to complete a table where they write something they observed, their background knowledge, and what they can infer.
  2. Column Graphic Organizer: This option allows students to share what the profile says or shows and what inference they make from that information,
  3. Reading Questions: This option includes five questions that allow students to explore different areas of the profiles including personality traits, interests, relationships, events, and pictures.

Students absolutely love this activity, and it is an effective way to get them inferring and thinking about how they use this skill in everyday life.
