A Wrinkle in Time Activity - Camazotz Manual and Post Card Novel Assignments
A Wrinkle in Time Activity - Camazotz Manual and Post Card Novel Assignments: Invite students to step into the eerie world of Camazotz with this creative activity inspired by A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. After reading about Charles Wallace’s unsettling description of the planet in Chapter 6, students will explore the culture and atmosphere of Camazotz by designing an official citizen manual and writing a postcard from the perspective of a character visiting or living there. These tasks encourage students to locate text evidence and also reflect on the novel’s setting, tone, and themes of conformity and control.
This is included in our novel unit plan:

Included in the A Wrinkle in Time Camazotz Manual and Postcard Assignments:
➡️ Camazotz Manual Graphic Organizer Template: With this eye-catching template, students will build a detailed one-page citizen manual describing life on Camazotz using evidence from the text.
➡️ Postcard from Camazotz Writing Assignment: Encourage students to adopt a character’s perspective and write home about their experience on the planet using this postcard template.
How the A Wrinkle in Time Camazotz Manual and Postcard Assignments work:
- Students begin by reviewing Charles Wallace’s reference to the Camazotz manual in Chapter 6.
- Then, they design their own one-page manual using text-based evidence to describe Camazotz’s rules, routines, and values.
- Finally, students write a postcard from the perspective of a character, capturing the experience of life on Camazotz and conveying the mood of this oppressive world.
This activity works well after students have read Chapter 6 after Charles’ reference to the manual.
