SETTING REVIEW: BOOK REPORT PROJECT FOR ANY NOVEL OR SHORT STORY
Use this final novel or short story project as an alternative to the traditional book report. In this project, students win a contest to win a trip inside the setting of any short story or novel of their choice. They must write online reviews of the setting from 3 characters and write comments on those reviews. They must also pack for their trip and plan their itinerary of where in the setting they want to visit.
This project allows students to demonstrate a deep understanding of setting and use strong evidence from the text to show this understanding in three online reviews and in the comments. They will also be able to make personal connections by selecting and justifying items to pack and by planning out their setting travel itinerary.
