The Maze Runner Activity - Design a Glade Map Creative Novel Setting Assignment
This The Maze Runner activity encourages students to build a clear understanding of the Glade, the mysterious enclosed area where the Gladers live and survive in The Maze Runner by James Dashner. Surrounded by the massive moving walls of the Maze, the Glade contains many important locations that can sometimes be difficult for students to fully visualize while reading. In this The Maze Runner activity, students collect important details about locations such as the Homestead, the Box, the Deadheads, the Gardens, the Blood House, the Maze Doors, and more before using evidence from the text to create a detailed, labeled map of the setting. This resource includes a planning page to gather text evidence and two map template options to help students organize information and represent the setting visually. A completed map answer key is included.

For each location, students gather descriptions, important events, and text evidence connected to areas such as the Gardens, Homestead, Deadheads, Blood House, Map Room, the Box, and more. This organizer helps students keep track of the setting while strengthening close reading and comprehension skills.
