The Maze Runner Activity - Creative Novel Assignment Design Apps for The Glade

This Maze Runner activity challenges students to imagine what life in the Glade would be like if Thomas and the other Gladers had access to modern survival apps. Students design a collection of original apps that could help the Gladers navigate the Maze, avoid danger, communicate, track supplies, or survive Griever attacks. As they create their apps, students make meaningful connections to key conflicts, characters, and challenges from the novel while thinking creatively about problem-solving and survival. This fun and creative activity encourages students to combine imagination with text-based understanding as they design app names, logos, and features that could actually help the Gladers stay alive.

➡️ The Glade Apps Design Assignment: Use this eye-catching template to guide students in creating four original apps that Thomas and the other Gladers could use to survive and solve problems in the Glade. Students name each app, design a matching icon, and explain its purpose using specific examples from the novel. This task encourages creative thinking while helping students connect their ideas directly to key challenges and events in the story.

This activity can be used at any time, but was designed to be used after reading Chapters 37, when students have a stronger understanding of the challenges and risks in the Glade and are better prepared to create clear solutions.
