How to Use This Weekly Literary Devices Resource:

  • At the beginning of each week, introduce one of the new literary devices, story elements, or figurative language using the included presentation. Discuss the video clips, images, and examples connected to the literary term.

  • Students then complete the related task in their bell ringers booklet or write the definition in their own words in the definition booklet.

  • Next, place the Literary Term of the Week poster on a bulletin board. Under this poster, display the literary term for the week. Students are tasked with finding real-world examples throughout the week and posting them beneath the poster. They can write examples on sticky notes, clip them from magazines, or print examples they find online. At the end of the week, review and discuss the student-submitted examples together.
