Back to School Activity - Discussion First Day Get to Know You Digital Game
Use this engaging back to school activity during the first days of school to help students move beyond simple introductions and start forming real connections. This activity encourages meaningful conversation through guided discussion questions. Students work in pairs, roll a die to determine which question they’ll answer, and spend several minutes genuinely talking and listening. After a few rounds, students reflect on what they learned about their partner and introduce them to the class. It’s a structured yet relaxed way to build classroom community, encourage active listening, and ease students back into both speaking and writing after summer break.

➡️ Get To Know Me Discussion Roll Activity: In this interactive digital back to school activity, students roll a digital die to determine which of the six discussion questions they will respond to and in what order. Each number on the die corresponds to a specific prompt designed to spark thoughtful conversation. Students spend 3–4 minutes discussing each question with their partner before rolling again for a new topic. Prompts include questions such as: What do you like to do in your free time? What is something you are afraid of? What are your goals for the future? and other engaging conversation starters. After completing several rounds, students write a brief summary of what they learned about their partner and share it with the class. This structure encourages participation, builds speaking and listening skills, and gently reintroduces writing expectations in a low-pressure way.
