Parts of Speech Escape Room Activity - Breakout Stations Grammar Review Game: Help your students understand and practice parts of speech with this highly engaging interactive escape room breakout activity! Students will circulate the classroom to visit stations and complete puzzles and challenges related to the following parts of speech: noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, conjunction, interjection, and preposition.

How The Parts of Speech Escape Room Activity Works:

Students work in small groups and move about the classroom to five different stations to complete puzzles and activities related to parts of speech (noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, conjunction, interjection, and preposition). The goal of the escape room is to complete the task at each station successfully and retrieve a variety of mystery code words.

  • Famous Parts of Speech: In the first station, students read famous quotes that have highlighted one of the parts of speech. Students properly label which part of speech is used, and that information leads to the discovery of a mystery word.
  • Parts of Speech Show What You Know: In the second station, students do a close reading of a paragraph about rollercoasters that contain homophone errors. Students put the correct homophones into the answer booklet to reveal a mystery word!
  • Count the Parts of Speech: In the third station, students read a sentence on a task card and determine how many of one part of speech is used. They write the numbers into their answer booklet to reveal a numeric code.
  • Parts of Speech Sort: In the fourth station, students sort sentences highlighting parts of speech under the proper part of speech. Then, they unscramble the letters on the cards to reveal a mystery sentence.
  • The Encryption Station: The final station has students decode an encrypted message based on hidden symbols they have to find throughout the game to reveal a quote!
