Holes Activity Nickname Assignment is a fun and creative way to make text connections to the novel Holes by Louis Sachar. In the novel, the boys at Camp Green Lake have nicknames that relate to their personalities. Some examples include Caveman, X-Ray, Squid, Armpit, and Magnet. This has students apply this idea to their own life by giving themselves their own fitting nickname with a justification for why they made this specific choice.

Included in the Holes Activity Nickname Assignment:

➡️ Holes Nickname Assignment Sheet: On this half-page assignment, students will choose a creative nickname for themselves. This relates to the novel Holes by Louis Sachar because the characters at Camp Green Lake all go by a nickname that relates to their personality! Students will have to make a connection between the nickname they choose and their own personality or interests.

➡️ Holes Nickname Display Poster: When students are done with the assignment, have them display their new nicknames on a bulletin board under this ready-to-print poster that reads, "Camp Green Lake Nicknames."

What Teachers Are Saying About The Holes Activity Nickname Assignment:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My students loved coming up with nicknames for themselves and they loved hearing their classmates' nicknames, also! Great activity for making connections!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ This was such a fun activity for my 6th graders! They each ended up with creative nicknames and kept them throughout the reading of the novel. Thank you!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ My students loved creating their own Camp Green Lake nicknames. They got up in front of the class and shared their nickname and the reasons they chose it, and then for the rest of the unit we did our best to call everyone by their nickname. :)
