Grammar Bell-Ringers - Weekly Grammar Skills Program Middle & High School ELA
Grammar Bell-Ringers - Weekly Grammar Skills Program Middle & High School ELA: Make grammar practice a meaningful and engaging part of your daily routine with these skill-focused Grammar Bell-Ringers. This 40-week program helps students strengthen their understanding of grammar, mechanics, and usage through a consistent and creative weekly structure that builds mastery one day at a time.
Each Monday, students are introduced to a new grammar concept—ranging from capitalization and commas to homophones, sentence fragments, and more. Throughout the week, they apply the skill in increasingly challenging and creative ways through short tasks, sentence corrections, and writing prompts. By Friday, students are synthesizing their learning in fun, real-world ways that reinforce retention and deepen comprehension.
Included in this Full-Year Grammar Bell-Ringers Program:
➡️ Grammar Bell-Ringer Presentation: This 400-slide PowerPoint presentation covers 40 weeks of daily grammar practice. Each week targets a specific grammar concept and includes daily slides (Monday to Friday), along with engaging tasks that build progressively throughout the week. The slides also include answer keys, so you can easily review with students.
➡️ Student Bell-Ringer Response Sheets: These weekly bell-ringer response sheets will guide students through each day’s bell-ringer task. Each page includes space for short responses, sentence corrections, and creative writing.
How to Use These Grammar Bell-Ringers in Your Classroom:
Students will begin each week with a clear introduction to the grammar concept they'll be focusing on. Start by providing them with the weekly response page. Then, each day, display the corresponding slide with that day’s targeted task to help them build, apply, and reinforce their understanding of the concept.
Each grammar skill of the week follows the same daily structure outlined below:
- Monday Mastery: Students are introduced to the week’s grammar concept through a clear explanation and example-driven slide. They begin by identifying the rule/concept and demonstrating a basic understanding with a quick-response activity.
- Tuesday Task: Students apply the grammar concept in context by completing short, skill-based tasks, such as identifying errors, choosing the correct form, or rewriting sentences.
- Wednesday Writing: Students take their understanding a step further by writing an original paragraph or short response that applies the grammar rule correctly and creatively.
- Thursday Team Up: On Thursdays, students work together in pairs (or individually if preferred) to complete an engaging, escape-room–style activity centered on the week’s grammar topic. Through collaboration, they identify grammar errors hidden within the challenges to uncover a mystery code and “escape.”
- Friday Fix-Up: To wrap up the week, students read an engaging nonfiction paragraph and apply their learning by correcting errors related to that week’s grammar topic.
