➡️ Monday - Literary Term of the Week: Start your week by introducing students to 76 different literary devices through the use of modern examples and video clips (music lyrics, TV, movies, novels, celebrities, images etc). Discuss the term and have students write the definition and examples of the literary device in their own words on the weekly student slide or on the general response slide (if you don't use a Mon-Fri schedule). Print the slides to create an accompanying bulletin board for the new literary devices they learn. Students can add examples that week of the literary device in action.
➡️ Tuesday - Discussion of the Week (What Would You Do?): Use the next day to engage your students in meaningful discussion! This resource includes 40 digital discussion prompts that include ethical dilemmas where students must decide what they would do in a specific situation. You can discuss the prompt as a whole class, or break students into small groups to discuss and report their thoughts back to the whole group. This is an excellent tool to encourage friendly debate.
➡️ Wednesday - Quote of the Week Response: On the next day, introduce one of the 40 inspirational quotes to your students by displaying the quote on the screen. Students reflect on the meaning and relevance of the quote in writing on their weekly student slides or the general response slides. Three alternative digital assignments are also included for students to make inferences, give advice, or make comparisons.
➡️ Thursday - Video Journal of the Week: On the following day, engage your students with dynamic Google Slides that feature 40 video clips accompanied by related writing prompts. The videos are inspirational, thought-provoking, and creative. This resource provides a structured approach to incorporating video journaling once a week to last you the entire school year!
➡️ Friday - Silent Reading (SSR): Students will end off the week with sustained silent reading. Each of the weekly Google Slides provides a prompt for students to take out their books and begin reading.
➡️ Organized Weekly Student Response Slides or General Slides: Each of the 40 bell-ringer weeks includes a Google Slides presentation with each of the weekly slides organized by day as well as an accompanying weekly student response slide. Share the weekly bell-ringer slide link on Monday, and students will use it to complete the bell ringers for that week!
➡️ General Response Slides (not Mon-Fri Option): Don't follow a Monday-Friday schedule? No problem! We have included general response slides for each of the days, so you can create your own bell-ringer schedule and use the general Google Slides that do not include a Monday-Friday header!
