  1. Students will be greeted by an identity poster on your classroom door which will hook them into this activity for The Outsiders.
  2. Start the class off with a whole-class discussion where students will consider what makes up the identity of a Greaser.
  3. Now students will choose a group that they most identify with by circulating the classroom and examining the 30 identity cards placed around the room. If they can't find a group they connect with, they can create their own!
  4. Once students have made a selection, each group (no matter how small or large), will complete an assignment which has them examine their own group identity. They will consider the reality and the stereotypes about the appearance, personality traits, habits, terminology, and activities of the group.
