CHAPTERS 4 - 6: JEWISH NEW YEAR WEB QUEST: Students do online research to learn about that Jewish New Year that is celebrated by the Rosens in the novel.

CHAPTERS 7 - 9: TWO TRUTHS, ONE LIE: Students empathize with Annemarie with this activity where they have to lie to their classmates.

CHAPTERS 10 - 12: ROLE PLAY ACTIVITY: Students work in groups to practice a role play of the events that take place at Great-aunt Birte’s funeral.

CHAPTERS 13 - 15: POST CARD IN CODE: Students write a post-card to Mr. Johansen using their own code to conceal the information from the Nazis.

CHAPTERS 13 - 15: LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD COMPARISON: Students compare the plot, conflict, setting, and characters of Number The Stars to Little Red Riding Hood.
