Skip the traditional character analysis, and try this fun alternative where students choose and design an original Halloween costume for one of the characters from their reading. Students will be required to show a deep understanding of characterization or themes that develop in the novel as the costume must relate in someway to what they learn about the character or a theme that develops in the reading.
CHARACTER PUMPKIN CARVING
After students have read a fictional short story or novel, have them carve Halloween pumpkins for 2 characters and explain their reasons with support from the text! Students will be required to show an understanding of symbolism as the carvings must relate in someway to the characters' personality or a theme that develops in the reading.
