Help your students understand and practice parts of speech with this highly-engaging interactive escape room / break out activity! Students should have an understanding of the 8 parts of speech to complete this activity: noun, pronoun, adjective, verb, adverb, conjunction, interjection, preposition.

HOW IT WORKS

Students work in small groups and move about the classroom to five different stations to complete puzzles and activities related to the parts of speech.

In the first station, students read famous quotes that have highlighted one of the parts of speech. Students properly label which part of speech is used, and that information leads to the discovery of a mystery word.

In the second station, students answer 10 multiple choice questions that have them properly label parts of speech. The answers to the questions reveal a mystery word.

In the third station, students read a sentence on a task card and determine how many of one part of speech is used. They write the numbers into their answer booklet to reveal a numeric code.

In the fourth station, students sort sentences highlighting parts of speech under the proper part of speech. Then, they unscramble the letters on the cards to reveal a mystery sentence.

The final station has students decode an encryption based on hidden symbols they have to find throughout the game to reveal a quote!
