A Wrinkle in Time Activity - Create an Awareness Campaign Novel Assignment
A Wrinkle in Time Activity – Create an Awareness Campaign Novel Assignment: Encourage thoughtful reflection and real-world action with this impactful assignment inspired by A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle. Using Mrs. Which’s powerful words in chapter 5, “There will no longer be so many pleasant things to look at if responsible people do not do something about the unpleasant ones,” students will explore real-world issues they care about. They’ll reflect on problems in their communities or around the world, research key information, and create a compelling awareness campaign in the form of a poster, brochure, or digital presentation.
This is included in our novel unit plan:

Included in the A Wrinkle in Time Awareness Campaign Assignment:
➡️ Campaign Planning and Research Organizer: Support students as they brainstorm a relevant issue, choose a campaign format, and plan their message using guided questions that help them connect with their audience in thoughtful and convincing ways. They will use what they write on this organizer to help them design their own poster, brochure, or digital presentation about the issue they want others to teach others about.
How the A Wrinkle in Time Awareness Campaign Assignment works:
-
Students begin by reflecting on Mrs. Which’s quote and brainstorming current issues in their community or the world that connect to the idea of confronting unpleasant truths.
-
Next, students choose one issue to focus on, research important facts, organize their message, and use emotional and logical appeals to inform and persuade.
-
To finish, students create an awareness campaign in the form of a poster, brochure, or digital presentation designed to raise awareness and inspire change.
This activity is best used after students have read Chapter 5, when they encounter The Happy Medium and begin to explore the novel’s themes of responsibility, justice, and the power of individuals to make a difference.
